Paediatric dentistry

Paediatric dentistry is the branch of dentistry dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through the adolescent years right into adulthood.
Preventative dentistry in children is very important – so visiting the dentist at a young age is a very important aspect of teaching.
At Prodental Clinics, we are eager to welcome children to our practice for a fun, pleasant and pain-free visit to the dentist.
We recommend that you bring in your children for their first dental visit after their first tooth has erupted. During the appointment, your child will gently be introduced to the dentists and our supporting staff and friendly faces greeting him or her each time.
Oral health education
As dentists, we are very passionate about paediatric oral health, so your child's first dental visit will focus on teaching the importance of proper oral health and good brushing and flossing techniques for stronger and healthier teeth.
Dental cleaning
Depending on your child’s age, we may do a gentle clean or polish on their teeth. This is a great way to introduce the typical dental check-up that he or she can expect in the future.
Restoration
While the initial appointments to the dentist should not require treatment, future visits may involve fissure sealants and fillings, and In cases where a lot of restorative dental work is needed, and your child isn’t able to sit still for a long period of time, we may recommend sedation or general anaesthesia to make your child feel more comfortable.
Monitoring
While we will be teaching your child proper oral hygiene techniques, we encourage parents to supervise teeth brushing until the age of 7 and sometimes even up to the age of 9- until your little one can do it properly for him/herself.
We also encourage parents to keep an eye out for improper alignment, overbite, underbite and malocclusions that may require early orthodontic treatment. During dental visits, we will check for any oral health issues and recommend treatments that we feel are necessary. We will also check the alignment of your child’s teeth to determine if they require orthodontics (braces).
